Once again, it's been two years

I should start a new blog where I only post every couple of years. It would be the sister blog of moderncuddler.

I went to a beautiful party at an architecture firm last night in Manayunk, the old hilly canal town in the Northwest arm of Philadelphia.  The firm was in a low slung old brick warehouse, two blocks from the regional rail, up a hill in a sylvan residential neighborhood. You could see out the steel frame windows to the Bala Cynwyd ridge over on the other side of the river valley.  The drink tables were full of exotic craft beers, which didn't run out even though I had to squeeze past people at the height of the party.

The work that the firm was doing was open on the desktops, and had the look of being very interesting and intellectual. The quality of space and facility gave the impression that they were doing quite well.  I have no idea what they pay their interns, but like most small firms I suspect it wouldn't be much.

Since graduation I've been thinking a lot about the kind of career I want, whether I would sacrifice a good income for the type of workplace I saw last night. I don't think it's going to be an easy decision.

Here's a rare photo of me presenting a studio project, my last school presentation ever, in fact.  Why is it so blurry? My presentation skills are so wonderous to behold that the photographer started crying, and his tears got on the lens.

Graduation and Birthday.

I got out of grad school about a week before turning 27.  Boring, but true.

the decision

I turned down the job offer.  It was decent, and the folks seemed cool, but I can't go to Boston. That's ridiculous. I already did the Freedom Trail.

So I'll most likely stay in my hovel, the city with the most murders, the ruin on the river, my home Philadelphia. It makes me a little sad, because so many people in my program are planning on leaving.  I now need to find some real employment.
